Franz Schädle (19 November 1906 – 1 May 1945) was an SS officer who commanded Adolf Hitler's personal security detachment.

He was born in Westerheim, Baden-Württemberg and after trade school he worked as a construction technician. He joined the SS on 1 February 1930. On 1 March 1932, Schädle became one of eight founding members of Hitler's personal bodyguard. From 1 May 1934, he also served on the staff of Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. Schädle guarded Hitler at his headquarters and accompanied him on all his trips. On 5 January 1945, Schädle was appointed commander of the bodyguard unit. On 28 April 1945, he was wounded in the leg by shrapnel. According to Otto Günsche, Schädle was present at Hitler's cremation in the garden of the Reich Chancellery on 30 April 1945.

After it became clear that the battle for the Führerbunker was lost and he learned that Hitler committed suicide, Schädle rejected Wilhelm Mohnke's offer to break out from the bunker and shot himself.

In the parodies[]

We all know and love the Downfall Schädle — although we know him not by his name, but rather by the sobriquet 'Mind-Blowing-Dude'.

He is also the star of SantaofLaughs' "Schädle Snacks."  In this, Mohnke is always inviting Schädle out to get some food or drink, but Schädle, much too hungry to wait, has already planned himself a meal. This meal, much to Schenck's surprise, and Mohnke's apathy, has mind blowing consequences.

In Hitler warns Mohnke about "Salo", Schädle was seen killing himself after watching "Salo", an Italian art film banned in several countries for depicting intensely-graphic violence, sadism, and sexual depravity.

In The Console Wars series, he is depicted as a Nintendo fan who kills himself because the "Wii U wasn't worth it".

Trivia[]

  • Schädle was redubbed in the original German version of Downfall - like several other German minor characters portrayed by Russian actors.
