“AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes.”
―Samuel L. Jackson

The AK-47 is a selective-fire, gas-operated 7.62×39mm assault rifle, first developed in the Soviet Union by Mikhail Kalashnikov. It is officially known as Avtomat Kalashnikova (Автомат Калашникова), AK, as opposed to the Western -47 designation. It is also known as a Kalashnikov, or in Russian slang, Kalash.

The original AK was one of the first true assault rifles to be produced and put into service, after the Sturmgewehr 44. Despite being introduced over half a century ago it (but mostly its simplified cousin AKM) is still in wide use due to their durability, low production cost, and ease of use, and has gained notoriety as it was, and still is, commonly associated with insurgent, guerrilla and terrorist organizations all over the world.

While the Kalashnikov was first developed during World War II, it wasn't until the early 1950s when the Soviet Army adopted it as their service firearm.

Downfall Parody Universe[]

Just as stated above, the AK-47 never saw action during the Second World War (unlike its designer), therefore, no Nazis were killed or injured with Kalashnikovs during the events of WWII.

It did make appearances and was mentioned in several parodies.

Hitler once showed off his antic-piercing AK-47, only to forgot basic firearm safety, resulting in another failed attempt to kill Fegelein (and a perforated map of Berlin).

Trivia[]

  • Because it's similar in aspect to the Sturmgewehr 44, many have claimed that Mikhail Kalashnikov was inspired by this weapon. This supposition, however has been refuted many times, but it is true that captured German technology was used to perfect the stamping process that was used in the AKM.
